ACTIVITY JAR

Fill an activity jar for the spring season with these fit and fun ideas! It's an easy way to collect a bunch of ideas for family fun. Pull them out any time you're ready for some active play! Kids usually enjoy helping you brainstorm the ideas, but it's also fun to include some options they don't know about. Nothing beats the element of surprise.

  1. Pick up your supplies. You need a Mason jar (or any jar), paper, scissors and pens.

  2. Cut long strips of paper.

  3. Write on the strips. Write down activities that you enjoy doing and that help to keep you busy. The idea is to spark your motivation when you don't feel it. Ideas include:

    1. Family Game Day (or Night)

    2. Rock climbing

    3. Cook off

    4. Go for a walk

    5. I spy at the park

    6. Go to the beach

    7. Host a sports day

  4. Fold up the strips. Once they're small cubes, pop them into the jar.

  5. Label the jar. Write "Spring Activities" on a small piece of paper, and tape/glue it on the jar.

SOCCER BALL PHOTO FRAME

You will need:

  • White and black craft foam

  • Glue

  • Black pen

  • Card

  • Ribbon

Instructions

  1. Cut a circle from white foam. Cut a hexagon from the middle of the circle.

  2. Cut 6 small triangles from black foam. Glue the 6 small triangles around the outside of the white circle.

  3. When the glue is dry, trim the edges of the triangles to fit the edge of the circle.

  4. Draw black lines from the corners of the hexagon to the points of triangles.

  5. Glue a photo to the back of the foam. Glue on a loop of ribbon. To keep the back of the photo safe, glue to a piece of card and then trim around the outside so the card fits the foam.

CEREAL BOX SOCCER

What You’ll Need

  • Cereal box

  • Paper

  • Cardboard

  • Drinking straws

  • Stapler

  • Card stock

  • Foil

What to Do

  1. Measure 3 inches from the side of a cereal box and cut off the entire side. Decorate the inside of the box with paper so it looks like a soccer field.

  2. Cut two goals by trimming the flaps at each end. Three inches from each goal, punch one hole in each side.

  3. Cut two 1-inch-by-8-inch strips of cardboard. Fold them in half. Place a drinking straw in the center of each, and staple the cardboard to the straw.

  4. Draw soccer players on card stock and glue them onto the cardboard. Slide the ends of the straws through the holes on the sides of the field.

  5. Make a soccer ball from foil.

How to Play

With a friend, spin the straws to make the players kick and block the ball. Try to get your soccer player to kick the ball through the opposite goal.
